    Disaster proclamation issued for 5 counties following derecho, tornados

    DES MOINES, Iowa — Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation on Tuesday for five counties after tornados and a derecho caused damage on Monday. The proclamation includes Des Moines, Dubuque, Mitchell, Polk, and Scott counties.

    The proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to help those affected by the severe weather recover. It also activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program.

    Households with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level qualify for grants up to $7,000. The grants can be used for home or car repairs, clothing or food replacement, and temporary housing.     The Disaster Case Advocacy Program provides those affected by severe weather with disaster case advocates to create a recovery plan, as well as provide guidance, advice, and referrals for services or resources. To learn more about the program click here .
