    Pedestrian hit and killed early Wednesday in north Des Moines

    DES MOINES, Iowa – A pedestrian died Wednesday morning on Des Moines’ north side after the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said she was struck by a vehicle.

    The PCSO said a report came in just after 5:30 a.m. that someone had been hit by a vehicle in the 4300 block of NW 2 nd Street and deputies responded to the scene.

    According to the PCSO’s preliminary investigation, the vehicle was traveling southbound when the pedestrian, an adult female, was struck. She died on the scene.

    The name of the woman has not been released. Officials are still working to identify the victim and notify her family.

    The PCSO says NW 2nd St. will be closed from NW 43rd Ave. through NW 44th Ave. while investigators continue their work and the scene is cleared. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
