Detroit Lions' Jared Goff respected in re-draft of active NFL players

Examples of Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff getting the respect he deserves are few and far between, but we've found one in a recent re-draft of active NFL players.

Chad Reuter of NFL.com recently did a seven-round mock draft of players who are already in the league, with the goal of "building a win-now team," and he had Goff going to the New York Jets with the No. 10 overall pick.

"The Jets get another veteran quarterback to distribute the ball efficiently while head coach Robert Saleh oversees a strong defense," Reuter wrote on the pick.

The nine picks before Goff were all quarterbacks, as you'd expect since it's the most important position in the NFL. That means Reuter believes Goff is a top-10 signal-caller in the league right now, and he'd be right in believing that.

Over the past two seasons, Goff has posted the second-most passing yards, the third-most passing scores and the 10th-best completion percentage. He was also ranked as one of the most clutch quarterbacks in the NFL in 2023, and he earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2022.

In the process, Goff has revived his career and the franchise as a whole, and the Lions now have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations after a season in which Detroit went to the NFC Championship Game. It has been a long time since we've been able to say that.

Interestingly enough, Goff went one spot ahead of former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who failed to achieve the playoff success with Detroit that Goff has, although he did manage to win a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.

While none of this will be enough to satisfy Goff's biggest detractors, he can change that in 2024 if he can lead the Lions to their first Super Bowl.
