Game notes: Javier Báez has now homered in three straight games for the third time in his career. So what happened in the fourth game following his previous two streaks?

May 5-7, 2018: After three straight games (two against the Cardinals and one against the Marlins) with a homer, the Cubs — of course — gave Báez the day off. Or at least they tried to; needing a pinch-hitter for the pitcher in the seventh inning on May 8, they turned to Báez, and he delivered … a single, in his only plate appearance.

June 21-24, 2022: It was a road trip to remember for Báez in his first season as a Tiger, as he went deep in two games in Boston against the Red Sox, and then one in Phoenix against the Diamondbacks. Báez couldn’t keep the streak alive in his second game against the D’backs, going 1-for-4 with a single in Phoenix.

No Tiger has homered in four straight games since Ian Kinsler did it May 15-18, 2016, with one game on the road (in Baltimore) and three games in Detroit (against Minnesota).

After today’s series finale — which will also be the final game between the Tigers and Twins this season, with each team at six wins — the Tigers welcome the Guardians to town in a two-game series that will also wrap up that season series against an AL Central foe. (The Tigers need to win just one of the two to win that season series, as well.) The Twins, meanwhile, head to New York for a three-game set against the Mets beginning Monday.
