Fire causes heavy damage to Dix home
Fire has heavily damaged a home in Dix. Jefferson Fire reports Edwin Austin of 308 Northeast Street exited his home Wednesday afternoon when hearing a pop. When going outside to see what was happening, he could see smoke coming from the attic. A short time later, a second caller indicated flames were coming from the second story.

Salem man sentenced to prison in six area counties
A 25-year-old Salem man that went on a two year crime spree to the area has now been sentenced to prison in six area counties. Tristan Rankin of Robin Road received a five year prison term in Marion County Court Wednesday for burglary and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. The time will run concurrently with prison terms handed down earlier in Effingham, Clinton, Jefferson, Clay and Washington Counties.
Two face aggravated battery to police officer charges following separate incidents
Two people have been charged in Marion County Court with separate aggravated battery incidents involving Centralia Police. 28-year-old Haley Nardone of West Warmouth in Salem was charged with aggravated battery for allegedly striking an officer in the head with a cup of water in an incident last Thursday. Police encountered Nardone when investigating a battery complaint. Nardone has also been charged with resisting or obstructing a police officer for allegedly refusing to have her hands placed in handcuffs.
