Nashville dam overtopped; Tri-state dams not at a risk
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ill. (KHQA) — Tuesday's heavy rainfall caused Nashville's reservoir dam in Washington county, Illinois to be overtopped. The rain also caused a secondary dam failure, flooding the town. The Tri-states also have locks and dams along the Mississippi river, but they are navigation dams, not reservoir dams.

Washington County EMA Addresses Concerns Regarding Tuesday’s Flood Event
NASHVILLE (WMIX) – Authorities in Washington County are addressing concerns about a dam and flooding throughout the city of Nashville on Tuesday. Two staff members from the Army Corps of Engineers in St. Louis, Missouri, along with City of Nashville employees, have inspected the Nashville Reservoir. The area has been deemed safe for residents to return in regards to the dam’s integrity.
Salem Grade School Board approves new teacher and support contracts
The Salem Grade School Board has approved new contracts with the teacher’s association and support staff. Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe says the new two year contract with the teacher’s association includes a 4.5 percent increase in pay each year plus an increased step on the salary scale. She didn’t feel comfortable entering a longer term contract due to dropping corporate income tax revenue and uncertainty over how much state aid the district will be receiving.
