Burglary suspects caught in Dixon, one on pretrial release for Child Pornography

DIXON, Ill. (WTVO) — One man, out on pretrial release on child pornography charges, and another, on probation for retail theft, were arrested Wednesday after police allegedly caught the pair burglarizing a home in rural Dixon.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the area of US Route 30 and Walton Road on Wednesday evening for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, police said two masked men were seen running from the home and to a black GMC Sierra pickup truck.

Dixon Police were able to stop the truck near Rock Island Road and Atkinson Road, and arrested the driver Michael Miller, 42, of Monmouth.

A short time later, Lee County deputies found the passenger, Julian Belmonte, 30, of Monmouth, walking westbound on Interstate 88.

Belmonte, who is currently on pretrial release for Child Pornography charges in Warren County, and Retail Theft charges in Whiteside County, was charged with Residential Burglary, Theft, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Criminal Trespass to Real Property.

Miller, who is on probation for a June 12th retail theft conviction in Whiteside County, was charged with Residential Burglary, Theft, Driving While License Suspended, Criminal Trespass, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with Registration Suspended.

Both men were taken to the Lee County Jail for processing and then released on pretrial provisions of the Illinois SAFE-T Act.
