A 33-year-old woman who had been reported missing following a flash flood in the Grand Canyon National Park in the US state of Arizona was confirmed dead, rangers said on Sunday.

The body of the woman was found on Sunday morning near the Colorado River amid a multi-day search and rescue operation.

The woman had been reported missing on Thursday following a flash flood that struck Havasu Canyon, about 30 kilometres upstream, the National Park Service (NPS) said in a statement.

"An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner," the NPS said.

The northern Arizona park drew 4.7 million visitors in 2023 and comprises some 500,000 hectares along 400 kilometres of the Colorado river.
