DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Durham police have found a missing 9-year-old boy after an Amber Alert was issued late Thursday night.

Durham police found Geon King-Parriett and his mother around 1:30 p.m. Friday at an apartment complex on the 2200 block of South Roxboro Street in Durham on Friday.

The mother, Mariah King, 33, was arrested and transported to the Durham County jail, police said. Geon, who was reported as safe, was later back in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Officers flooded the apartment complex on South Roxboro Street, pulling Mariah King out of a silver truck in the parking lot. That’s when police also found the boy who was at the center of the Amber Alert.

CBS 17 captured the moment Durham police arrested King, who is accused of abducting her own son.

King was charged with abduction of children in connection with the Amber Alert, Durham police said in a news release Friday afternoon. She was also served with two outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a probation violation.

Officers drove around all day, stationed outside of a Food Lion on Fayetteville Street, searching for the two.

The Amber Alert was first issued just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Officials said they believed Geon was abducted by his biological mother, Mariah King.

Their last known location was 202 S. Benjamine Street, the Amber Alert said.

Mariah King is being held in the Durham County Jail on a $70,000 bond.
