Eagle residents woke up to prejudice and racist graffiti Tuesday morning that is causing concerns.

The vandalism along Floating Feather Road said "Californians sucks" and "Eagle hates Mexicans."

The incident follows the city's decision to pass resolution 24-07 to declare Eagle a non-sanctuary city , meaning taxpayer dollars cannot go toward services for undocumented people.

Comments on social media soon after the decision were mixed with support and disappointment.

Eagle Mayor Brad Pike told KTVB he does not know if the vandalism is tied to the resolution.

"You're always going to have controversy on both sides of the coin on anything that gets passed," he told KTVB on Tuesday afternoon. "But I'm not going to speculate on if this is something that I think is correlated to resolution 24-07."

Pike added, "I was thoroughly disgusted and appalled that we have to deal with this kind of profiling within our own community because we are a very loyal and loving community."

He added that vandalism is on the rise for the area, but that an incident like this is "out of the norm" for Eagle.

A city spokesperson said on Tuesday afternoon all the graffiti "(has) been removed with efforts from the property owner, an HOA, and the City Public Works Department."

The Ada County Sheriff's Office told KTVB it is investigating the incident but has no leads. The office couldn't say whether one person or a group is responsible.
