Nebraska’s 2023-24 general tax receipts come in $10.6 million below latest projections
LINCOLN — Nebraska’s tax receipts for the 2023-24 fiscal year released Monday came in 0.1% below the most recent projections. In the past year, the State of Nebraska collected $7.156 billion for the state’s general pocketbook, about $10.6 million below a Feb. 29 forecasting projection. The reported general fund tax receipts include net sales and use taxes, individual income taxes, corporate income taxes and miscellaneous taxes.

Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department urges caution during excessive heat warning
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Lincoln and Lancaster County effective noon Sunday, July 14 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 15. Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112 degrees are possible. A heat advisory also remains in effect from 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. The NWS HeatRisk for Lincoln will be in the Major, or red category, which means this level of heat affects anyone without cooling or adequate hydration.
11 NE lawmakers to host Lincoln, Omaha listening sessions on property taxes
LINCOLN — Eleven lawmakers will host two listening sessions on property taxes in the state’s two most populous cities after Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen opted out of doing so. Pillen, in his quest to reform property taxes, crisscrossed the state, visiting 26 cities in May and June for town halls to pitch his evolving reform plans. He asked Nebraskans to offer feedback and to pressure state senators to support his ideas, although senators later said they received little feedback.
