City of Hammond to host free job fair
The Hammond mayor’s economic development office is inviting community members to attend its annual job fair on Sept. 19. The city hosts the event to address the employment needs of the residents of the city of Hammond and the Region. The job fair also helps assist local companies in their recruitment process. GoFundMe Launched To Support Family Of Mail Carrier Killed On Her Far South Side Route
WEST PULLMAN — The family of a Chicago postal worker killed on the job last week on the Far South Side has launched a GoFundMe in her honor. The loved ones of Octavia Redmond hope to raise $12,000 with the GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses and “to cope with our grief,” according to the campaign’s page. Over $3,700 had been donated as of Thursday evening.

Thankfully, Streetsblog has seen no reports of bicycle fatalities within the city of Chicago this year. Let's hope that this good luck streak continues. However, sadly the northern suburbs have not been so fortunate. In July alone, there have been at least three reports of drivers seriously injuring or killing people on bikes in Morton Grove, Skokie, and Lincolnwood. Two of the crashes happened yesterday, Wednesday, July 24. All three collisions took place on roads controlled by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which has historically prioritized fast traffic flow over street designs that help prevent severe crash injuries and deaths.
