BRISTOL, R.I. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves were beaten by the Roger Williams University Hawks, 3-0, and the Suffolk University Rams, 3-1, on day two of the Roger Williams Volleyball Tournament this afternoon at Paolino Recreation Center. WestConn, which one its 2024 opener in the tournament against New England College last night, falls to 1-2 and will visit Mount St. Mary next on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m. WestConn funior Helen Megson (Lebanon, Conn.) had 18 kills and senior teammate Olivia Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y.) registered 52 assists, five kills, three aces, and 18 digs for the day.

Runey Concerned About School Budget
As a new school year begins September 4 for the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District, Superintendent Bill Runey is apprehensive about the FY’ 26 school budget. “I’m seeing a concerning trend about this new Governor (Maura Healey),” Runey said on August 28. “The fact she decreased state aid last year and that definitely had an impact on us. I’m hoping we can do some work in the meantime with our state representatives to convince (Healey) that we need that funding to come back to normal because we’ve been through two very difficult budget years. We’ve made cuts to the teaching staff and we’re getting to the point where our class sizes are (at the point) that I’m comfortable with them in terms of delivering the best education to our students.”

Last Bank Robbery Suspect Makes Plea Deal
The fourth and final man accused of robbing the Vineyard Haven Rockland Trust in 2022 has agreed to plead guilty in hopes of leniency for his sentencing. Miquel Jones, a suspect in the November 2022 robbery of the Edgartown Vineyard-Haven Road bank, entered a plea agreement with the U.S. District Court in Boston on Monday.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's soccer team will welcome Indiana on Sunday evening, kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and NESN. Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets online at Brownbears.com/tickets prior to their arrival at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Fans should either download their digital tickets to display on a mobile device or print them at home prior to arrival.
