It’s the fourth annual Heroes Helping Heroes Day at Challenger Miracle Field. This coming Saturday July 20, local first responders will spend the day at Miracle Field, playing with and against some of our amazing Challenger athletes. Wednesday American Legion Wrap: LaLoggia highlights late rally as Meyers-Ingraham advances; Cannon leads Irondequoit Post into semifinals
MEYERS-INGRAHAM (8-9) 5. AJ LaLoggia delivered the tying run with a two-out triple and eventually scored the game winner as Meyers-Ingraham erased a four-run deficit in the seventh inning to clinch a spot in the District 7 semifinals. Trailing 4-2, LaLoggia brought home Mason Drew and Tré Walker with his three-bagger. After an intentional walk was issued to Nolan Gamble, Matt Riddell plated LaLoggia with a single for the final margin of victory. Gamble struck out four over two shutout innings, including the seventh when he retired the side in order to pick up the win. Walker finished 3-for-4 and got Meyers-Ingraham on the board with a two-run single. Patrick Emling led the inning with a base hit. One out later, Jimmy Marotta and Owen Zimmer followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Walker started the scoring from there. Meyers-Ingraham sent 10 to the plate in the decisive frame. Alex Young staked Braman Post to an early lead with a two-run single in the first. Caleb Wilson drove in a pair of runs with a base hit in the third and then a double in the fifth for a 4-0 advantage. Wilson was 2-for-3. Christian Morrison singled, walked and scored twice. Matt Bartusek and Patrick Altpeter both walked and scored. Meyers-Ingraham advances to face top-seeded Greece Post 468 in the district semifinals. A doubleheader is scheduled Thursday at Greece Athena with a 3:45 PM first pitch for Game 1 of the best two-of-three series.
Red Wings blown out by Syracuse, 13-2, in first game after break
The Rochester Red Wings started their first series after the All-Star break with a loss on Friday, falling at the Syracuse Mets, 13-2, as Syracuse scored 13 unanswered runs. The Wings (51-41 overall, 13-6 in second half, one game up in the International League) got on the board early, as right fielder Travis Blankenhorn drove in Darren Baker on a one-out sacrifice fly to put Rochester ahead, 1-0. It was all Syracuse from that point on, however, scoring four in the bottom of the first before putting up nine runs- only one of them earned- in a fifth inning that saw the Wings commit two of their three errors.

SYRACUSE 13, ROCHESTER 2 (BOX) A nine-run 5th inning propelled Syracuse to an easy win over the Rochester Red Wings in their first game out of the break. Both Rhylan Thomas and Luke Ritter had three-hit days, Carlos Cortes went deep, and Brett Baty walked three times (a potentially encouraging sign as he works through approach issues). Meanwhile, Tylor Megill struck out seven, though he did also walk four.
Thursday American Legion Wrap: Greece Post and Irondequoit Post 134 sweep into semi-finals
GREECE POST 468 (17-1) 5. Derrick Allen went 3-for-4 including a two-out RBI single to cap a three-run sixth as Greece Post pulled away from a tie game. Knotted at two, Jeffrey Broadnax led the frame with a single. Kaleb Juliano reached on a hit by pitch. After a Parker Zeiser sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third, Jaden Madrid connected on a go-ahead, run-scoring single to bring home Broadnax. Brady Gerig made it a 4-2 game with a sacrifice bunt of his own, and Allen drove in Madrid. Allen had two RBI along with a triple and a run scored earlier in the game. Madrid scored twice. Broadnax went 2-for-3. Gerig stole two bases on the day. Weston Elkovitch was 2-4 with an RBI. Quentin Grimes struck out five without issuing a walk and allowed one run on four hits over 3.2 innings of relief work to pick up the win. Brody Froman had a single. Tré Walker doubled and scored the tying run in the fifth as part of a 3-4 effort to lead Meyers-Ingraham. Walker scored both runs for Meyers-Ingraham. Matt Riddell was 2-3 with an RBI. AJ LaLoggia singled, walked and drove in a run.
