Eau Claire Police Department warns of missing child scam on social media

EAU CLAIRE (WKBT) -- Police in Eau Claire are warning of a missing child scam circulating on social media.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, ECPD said the post featuring an allegedly missing autistic child in "extreme danger" is a scam.

"There is no report in Eau Claire that a child is missing," police said.

Police asked the public not to forward or share the post if seen.

Missing persons reports will be shared from the police department's page, with a point of contact identified so members of the public know who they should share information with.

ECPD says multiple law enforcement agencies have had this same post shared in their jurisdictions.
