Dock Dance Returns to Rock Memorial Wharf
Some wore high heels, some wore cutoffs and others arrived in their bathing suits for the first Dock Dance of the season Tuesday night. The Dock Dance Band (made up of John Stanwood, Jamie Greene, Alex Karalekas, Niko Ewing, Adam Petkus and Rose Guerin) returned to their old stomping ground to open the season and play for a packed Memorial Wharf crowd. The band opened around 7 p.m. and within an hour crowds of young people began gathering, with all Edgartown roads seemingly leading to the wharf.

Menemsha Bakery Stirs Debate About Chain Stores
An off-Island bakery’s application to open a location in Menemsha raised concerns about changes in the fishing village. The Chilmark select board voted Tuesday to allow Cambridge-based bakery Iggy’s Bread to begin selling coffee and pastries at the former location of The Bite, a restaurant that closed its doors in 2017. Iggy’s previously said it would sell pastries and breads baked on the mainland, similar to its outpost in Edgartown.

Moms Unhinged comes to the Island

Then head over to the Strand Theatre in Oak Bluffs on Tuesday, July 9, at 7 pm and catch Moms Unhinged, a Colorado-based standup comedy group who have been selling out all over the country. Moms Unhinged is Andrea Marie, and Catherine Shea, and on July 9, their headliner for the evening is Janae Burris. Their act is described as clean(ish) comedy — perfect for gaggles of girlfriends, book club members, couples, throuples, your mom, men, aliens — pretty much anyone with opposable thumbs (and money for tickets).
Benefit reading for MV Playhouse
“Celebrity Autobiography,” a critically acclaimed comic reading of books by Suzanne Somers, Justin Bieber, the Kardashians, Hasselhoff and many others, is staged at the Performing Arts Center at MVRHS in Oak Bluffs. “Celebrity Autobiography” has played around the world, from Broadway to London’s West End, to Sydney Opera House to rave reviews. On July 6 this “Critics Pick” show, according to the NY Times, will be read by Brooke Adams, Tony Shalhoub, Amy Brenneman, Brad Silberling, Tonye Patano, Eugene Pack, Dayle Reyfel, and others to be announced. The benefit for Vineyard Playhouse is at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center on Saturday, July 6, at 7 pm. Tickets are $100, $50, $35.
