Will UTRGV be in the EA’s new College Football 25 game?

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — With the highly anticipated arrival of College Football 25 on the horizon, some may be wondering if they can play with UTRGV’s football team.

EA Sports College Football is slated to return later this month after an 11-year hiatus. According to EA, the latest iteration in the series will feature 134 college teams, but will that include UTRGV?

According to UTRGV, the answer to that question is, no … for now.

Jonah Goldberg, UTRGV Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications & Championships, confirmed to ValleyCentral that UTRGV is not in this year’s game.

UTRGV football is expected to kick off in 2025, so if the team were to be officially featured in the game, it would likely have to wait at least one more season.

Additionally, EA stated the game will include FBS teams, but did not mention whether teams from the Football Championship Subdivision, or FCS, would be in the game. UTRGV will compete in the Southland Conference in the FCS.

An ESPN report stated that EA is planning to add to the project in the future, but the FBS was the focus for their first year back.

“I think we’ve all heard the same rumors that EA might add FCS schools for the next version,” Goldberg said. “If they do, that would be our first year having a program, so we certainly would hope to be included.”

In the reveal trailer, EA showcased the “team builder” feature, which will allow users to create their own college football program with customization tools, including uniforms, helmets, fields and a logo. There will also be a download center to use teams created by the community.

The extent of the team builder’s customization is unknown, but this may be an option for those wanting to create a team that resembles the school’s program.
