Police say Scoda's vehicle lost control and crashed into a utility pole, which engulfed the vehicle in flames. Some unidentified citizens managed to get Scoda out of his vehicle before police and EMT arrived, according to a press release.

Scoda was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center, where he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.

“The Stafford Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to Kevin Scoda's family during this painful time,” the press release reads.

Authorities say traffic was diverted off Route 72 eastbound for approximately two hours during the investigation. Layer’s condition is unknown at this time.

The crash is currently under investigation by Officer Justin Pascale. If anyone witnessed the incident or useful footage, they are advised to contact 609-597-1189 X8436 or email Officer Justine Pascale.
