A area of Egg Harbor Township was closed for about three hours while police tried to make contact with a suicidal resident Tuesday.

Police were called Uibel Avenue at about 11:45 a.m. about the person making suicidal threats involving a weapon, Lt. Larry Graham said.

Officers made contact with the father, who said that the subject was intoxicated, inside the residence and was no longer responding to attempts to speak with him, according to the report.

Responding officers quickly secured the area around the residence from Tilton Road to Douglass Avenue, Graham said.

Negotiators from the township Police Department arrived as Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office mebers tried to contact him by telephone, but were unsuccessful, Graham said.

The Prosecutor’s Office used a drone to get closer to the residence, and determined there was no movement inside the home, according to the report.

The negotiators were able to finally make contact with the subject after several hours. He exited the residence and complied with the directions of officers on scene.

He was taken transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus by Emergency Medical Services to be evaluated and treated.

    His name was not released.
