EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly stabbed a cat to death in Central El Paso earlier this week, El Paso Police said.

Krystopher Nathan Torres, 21, has been arrested and charged with non-livestock animal cruelty (kill), according to El Paso Police said.

The El Paso Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit responded to reports of a man stabbing a cat at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 along the 3000 block of Douglas Ave.

When officers arrived, they found a dead cat and that the suspect was no longer at the scene.

Officers were later able to find the suspect along the 11000 block of Gateway West after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash, police said.

Torres was arrested Thursday and booked into El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond of $100,000.
