The Carter County Democratic Women’s Club will meet Tuesday, May 28, at 6 p.m. at the Mayflower Restaurant in Betsytowne Shopping Center off 19E in Elizabethton. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m., so come early if you plan to order dinner.

This meeting will feature the Pocketbook Ministry of Red Legacy, an organization dedicated to women working on their recovery. The Pocketbook Ministry provides purses to the women in the program who may not have all the little things they need. Those attending are asked to bring any gently used purses, large or small, they might have. The club will provide a few things to go in the purses, but certainly not enough to cover all of them. Members are asked to  bring small packages of kleenex, nail kits, lip balm, nail polish, eyeglass cleaning packets, hand sanitizer, lotion, personal hygiene products, Altoids, packaged snacks, etc.

Additionally, Bennett Lapides will be the club’s special guest. Bennett is a Sevier County native who is running as a Democrat for the First Congressional District seat. He supports public school teachers and students, solutions for affordable housing, environmental protection, and a 21st-century economy that benefits all Tennesseans.

For more information, call CCDW President Janet Hyder at (423) 342-7440.
