The 75th Cass County (IA) Fair starts Thursday
(Atlantic, Iowa) – The 75th Cass County Fair gets underway this Thursday, July 25th, in Atlantic. The Fair runs through July 30th, and concludes with the Livestock Auction at 8-a.m. Tuesday. In between now and then, there are lots of 4-H/FFA shows, inflatable carnival and many other activities for the whole family to enjoy. The Cass County Fair is always FREE: No entry fee, no charge to park, and no charge to view the exhibits and entertainment. There’s also great Fair food at the 4-H and FFA Foodstands, along with the Chuckwagon, each of which have a variety of delicious hot, and refreshingly cold, food and drinks to choose from.
Updated: RAGBRAI 2024 Rolls into Atlantic
(Atlantic) Thousands of bicycle enthusiasts hailing from coast to coast and abroad are traveling across Iowa for RAGBRAI 2024. The trip started in Glenwood on Sunday, spent Sunday night in Red Oak, and headed out on Monday morning through Elliott, Griswold, and Lewis for an overnight stay in Atlantic. Harlan battles to the end, loses heartbreaker in State Quarterfinal
(Cedar Rapids) – Harlan was within one strike of completing a comeback and advancing to a State Semifinal but came up just short. Carroll County Supervisors Approve Halbur Ridge Wildlife Area Donation To City Of Halbur
The Carroll County Board of Supervisors finalized a land donation to the City of Halbur for proposed trail development west of the community during their meeting yesterday (Monday). City officials approached the board earlier this year and requested the Halbur Ridge Wildlife Area be transferred to the city, but the supervisors held off on approving the land gift until they confirmed the county maintained first right of refusal on the approximately half-mile strip of land. The City of Halbur submitted a formal plan to the county that shows they plan to begin fundraising and pursue grants to pave the trail to be used for walking and biking. With first-right-of-refusal secured and a plan in place, the board voted unanimously to approve the land transfer.

Just two months after a tornado devastated parts of Greenfield, thousands of RAGBRAI riders stopped in the southwest Iowa town. On the way in, cyclists rode past homes destroyed by the May 21 tornado that killed four people and injured dozens.
Omaha man arrested for OWI near Sheldon
SHELDON—A 26-year-old Omaha, NE, man was arrested about 9:05 p.m. Sunday, July 21, near Sheldon on a charge of first-offense operating while under the influence. The arrest of Chad Michael Lechtenberg stemmed from a report of an erratic southbound motorist on the Highway 60 expressway, according to the Sheldon Police Department.
