    Elk River Police Report: Driver flees, vehicle crashes, meth found; Woman hit by flying bag of pancake mix; Food burning on stove triggers alarms

    Driver flees, vehicle crashes, meth found

    Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle shortly before noon Feb. 9 in Elk River, when the driver fled. The vehicle crashed and rolled over.

    Elk River Police Capt. Joe Gacke said a 29-year-old Zimmerman man was arrested.

    Police located approximately 120 grams of methamphetamine and large amounts of drug paraphernalia, according to the police report.

    The suspect was transported to the hospital, cleared, and booked into the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River for fleeing in a motor vehicle and first-degree controlled substance possession, the police report stated.

    The vehicle was totaled and towed.

    Food burning on stove triggers alarms

    Authorities were called to an apartment complex in the 700 block of Sixth Street in Elk River at 3:46 p.m. Feb. 8 on an anonymous complaint about fire alarms going off inside an apartment. When police arrived, the first floor of the complex was filling with smoke. Officers observed heavy smoke coming from the oven area in a kitchen and found food burning on the stove with nobody inside the residence. The Elk River Fire Department also responded.

    Contact was later made with a 56-year-old man who lived in the apartment. He said he thought he turned off the stove.

    Beretta 12-shotgun stolen from car

    A Beretta 12 gauge shotgun, black knife, tan Carhartt jacket, and phone charger were stolen out of a car in Elk River. The theft was reported Feb. 10 in the 300 block of Evans Avenue.

    Woman hit by flying bag of pancake mix

    A 41-year-old Nowthen woman was hit in the stomach by a bag of pancake mix at Walmart, 18185 Zane St., Elk River.

    She said she was in the soda aisle when someone threw the mix into the air from a couple of aisles over. Police were called shortly before 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12. The suspects are unknown at this time, according to the police report.

    Truck damaged, tools are stolen

    Someone smashed out a window and slit a truck bed cover at Hoosier Tire North, located at 12680 Industrial Blvd. in Elk River. Several tools were stolen from the truck bed. Estimated damage and theft is about $3,400. The incident was reported to police on Feb. 9.

    Man steals four flashlights, cited

    Police cited a 36-year-old Minneapolis man for theft after being called to Home Depot, 18011 Zane St., Elk River, just before 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 for a report of a theft in progress.

    The suspect left in a vehicle with four stolen Milwaukee flashlights. The vehicle was located and stopped. The driver admitted to the theft and provided the stolen items to officers, according to the police report. The flashlights were returned to the business and the man was cited.

    Wisconsin man is arrested in domestic

    Police arrested a 55-year-old Chetck, Wisconsin, man for domestic assault after he allegedly attacked a male and others at a home in Elk River. Police were called shortly after 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8.

    The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River.

    Cat, three kittens found on property

    An adult calico cat and three older kittens were picked up by an Elk River Police Department community service officer on Feb. 13 after a woman found them on her property in the 18500 block of Cleveland Street in Elk River. The animals were impounded.

    DWIs reported

    The following DWIs have been reported recently.

    • At 2:07 a.m. Feb. 8, police observed a vehicle pull into a closed bar parking lot at 16754 Highway 10, Elk River. Contact was made with a female walking toward the closed business. She showed signs of impairment and failed standardized field sobriety testing. The 30-year-old Zimmerman woman was arrested.

    • Police stopped a vehicle for excessive speed over the train tracks at Main Street and Railroad Drive in Elk River just before midnight Feb. 11. “The vehicle bottomed out causing sparks and possible damage to the underside of the vehicle,” according to the police report. Police also observed other driving violations. A 20-year-old Woodbury man was arrested for DWI.

    • Police arrested a 57-year-old Minneapolis man for DWI after responding to a report of a driving complaint shortly before 9 p.m. Feb. 13. Contact was made with the driver, who had pulled into Holiday at 18296 Zane St. in Elk River. The driver showed indicators of alcohol impairment and failed standardized field sobriety testing.
