The Cordish Companies hosted a topping off ceremony Wednesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. to celebrate the final beam being placed atop the first land-based casino in the Shreveport-Bossier area. In an interesting twist, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has found himself part of the conversation surrounding the shooting of former President Donald Trump. Talk of the rapper attending or performing at the Republican National Convention broke as his 2003 song “Many Men” about surviving a shooting went viral in the wake of the assassination attempt. Users on social media were posting photos of the former president to the lyrics "Many men wish death upon me. Blood in my eye, dawg, and I can't see. I'm tryin' to be what I'm destined to be."

Shreveport Fire Department Honors a Very Special Dog
Toby is a Very Special Dog That Has a Love for Firetrucks. Ryan and Nicole Hurd rescued Toby. The Hurds said Toby and his littermates were abandoned in a ditch in Shreveport 13 years ago and luckily all the pups were adopted by loving families. Toby has always been obsessed with sirens for a long time his owners say that Toby runs out every time he hears a siren and he howls along with sirens. Toby was recently diagnosed with cancer and the Hurds were told there isn't much they can do for Toby besides keep him comfortable.
Louisiana Versus Litter: The Litter Hotline
It's no surprise that Shreveport has been in a battle against litter, earlier this year Shreveport Police Department announced they had made their first litter-related arrest. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, along with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), and Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) are launching a statewide program to fight back against litter. Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser says "We are ramping up litter enforcement in Louisiana with support from the State Police, Wildlife and Fisheries agents, and local law enforcement. It's important that we educate those guilty of littering and work together to keep Louisiana Beautiful."

First of all, I congratulate Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr. on his historic swearing as the top law enforcement official of our Parish, and I, the Shreveport Police Chief, our local judges and public defender all look forward to working collaboratively with the Sheriff to address issues in our community and court system. And I send condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Sandra McCalla, a tiny lady who was a giant in our local community. The Head Gator will sorely missed and fondly remembered, even by my City of Byrd!

As an integral part of U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. 3rd Fleet operates naval forces in the Indo-Pacific in addition to providing realistic and relevant training necessary to flawlessly execute our Navy’s timeless roles of sea control and power projection.
