Tri-state area battles rising Mississippi River, level threaten July 4th tourism
QUINCY, Ill. (KHQA) — In the tri-state area, communities along the Mississippi River are grappling with elevated water levels, resulting in widespread flooding. In Canton, the town has had to raise its floodgates and close several roads. Canton Mayor Terry Fretwell says the flooding has hit the town hard.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A fireworks spectacle was seen all up and down the Peoria Riverfront last night, celebrating the Fourth of July. A rainy start to the Fourth of July holiday in Central Illinois made way to partly to mostly sunny skies throughout the afternoon and evening in time for the huge fireworks display.
Area road construction projects begin Monday
PEORIA, Ill. – Monday marks the start of the new work week and the start of road construction projects in and near Morton, East Peoria and Eureka. Pavement patching will begin Monday on the I-74 Morton Avenue overpass in Morton. Morton Avenue will be down to one lane in each direction through August.
Knox County seeks short-term State’s Attorney
Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin is stepping down before his term ends later this year. Karlin – a Democrat and former Galesburg city council member – was elected to his first term as State’s Attorney in 2020. He’s leaving in September to return to private practice. He will be working for the James Kelly Law Firm, which provides general legal services to the city of Galesburg.

The 75th annual Heart of Illinois Fair is scheduled for July 16-20 at Exposition Gardens. It isn’t what it used to be, but then, neither am I. Things have changed. People don’t flock to the summer event like they did years ago. Yet, it remains a most enjoyable family attraction and deserves our support.
