San Dieguito Academy presents Roald Dahl's 'Matilda the Musical'

    2024-03-14

San Dieguito Academy will be performing Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, written by Dennis Kelly and Music/Lyrics written by Tim Minchin. Performances will be April 11-13 and April 18-20 at 7 p.m. and April 17 at 4 p.m. SDA will be hosting a special sneak peek dinner and a show fundraiser on April 10 with dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. and the show starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale, according to a news release.

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her school teacher Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however, the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves to punish those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs and the incredible cast of young actors and performers, Matilda is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination, the news release stated.

All shows will be performed at the Clayton E. Liggett Theater on the San Dieguito High School Academy campus, 800 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas, 92024. Tickets cost $10 for children and students and $16 for adults and are available for purchase at www.sdatheatre.com. Tickets for the Sneak Peak cost $30 and are available for purchase also at www.sdatheatre.com. The house opens one half-hour before each show, where tickets may also be purchased (if still available).
