Winning formal golf events isn’t new to North East’s Swan siblings.

Now, even beating older peers in match play finals is no longer novel for them.

Anna Swan, who’s about to start her college career at Oklahoma’s Oral Roberts University, defeated recent Gannon University graduate Sarah White 3 and 1 in Sunday's final for the Erie District Women’s Golf Association Match Play Tournament.

That result at Lawrence Park Golf Club marked the third straight year Swan, a recent North East graduate and former PIAA gold medalist, prevailed in the bracket format. She defeated White, who starred for the women's golf programs at Mercyhurst Prep and Gannon University, where she graduated from earlier this year.

Sunday’s loss also left White winless in career appearances for EDWGA majors.

“The fact that Sarah just graduated college, and I’m going in (next month), is crazy,” Anna Swan said. “I’ve been thinking about that and how we’re all growing up.”

“But it honestly doesn’t matter who I’m playing, older or younger. I want to win, and competition is competition.”

Swan’s third consecutive Match Play title occurred less than two weeks after younger brother Josiah Swan beat Clarion University-bound Devon Lauer in the EDGA Junior Match Play Tournament’s boys 18-under final at The Ridge Golf Club.

    Josiah Swan is an eighth-grader-to-be.

Sunday’s Match Play net flight final also came down to that bracket’s top two seeds. Gail Heubel prevailed 1-up in her title dual against Chris Willey.

    Seeking another sweep

Most of the weekend’s Match Play participants are expected back at Lawrence Park for the EDWGA’s Stroke Play Tournament. The 54-hole event will run Aug. 16-18.

Anna Swan, as she did in 2023, can sweep the EDWGA’s majors with a victory that weekend. She offered disappointing news for other Stroke Play participants who hoped she would be en route to Oral Roberts by then.

“Yes,” Swan said, “I will be back here.”
