Union City man faces drug charges after police find suspected heroin after woman ODs

A Union City man is facing drug charges after authorities said they found suspected heroin in his apartment days after a woman overdosed there.

Jonathan R. Weed, 30, was arraigned Aug. 16 on felony counts of possession with intent to deliver and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing an instrument of crime following a search of his apartment in the first block of Parade Street on Aug. 16.

Weed was released from custody after posting his $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on Sept. 9, according to court records.

A lawyer for Weed was not listed on his criminal docket sheet.

Investigators said Union City police and members of the Erie County District Attorney's Drug Task Force searched Weed's apartment after receiving information about suspected drug activity there. Two days earlier, according to police and information in Weed's criminal complaint, emergency responders were called to the apartment after a woman overdosed on suspected heroin.

The woman, who survived the overdose, told authorities Weed invited her to the apartment and told her she needed to do a "bump" of heroin to prove she wasn't setting him up, the investigating Union City police officer wrote in the complaint's affidavit of probable cause.

During the search of the apartment, investigators found about 20 grams of suspected heroin, digital scales and other suspected drug paraphernalia, and cash, Union City police reported after the incident.
