Oregon Ducks Offensive Stars Earn Massive Recognition

The Oregon Ducks are preparing for their debut campaign in the Big Ten, and a couple of their players are already getting massive recognition.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel and wide receiver Tez Johnson have earned Big Ten preseason honors.

Gabriel is preparing for his first season in Oregon after transferring over from Oklahoma.

The Heisman Trophy candidate is coming off of a brilliant 2023 campaign in which he threw for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 69.3 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 373 yards and 12 scores.

Gabriel actually began his collegiate career at Central Florida and spent three years with the Knights before a broken clavicle ended his tenure at UCF three games into his third season.

He then transferred to Oklahoma, where he spent a couple of years and re-established himself as a big-time signal-caller.

Meanwhile, Johnson is entering his second season with the Ducks. Last year, he hauled in 86 receptions for 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The 22-year-old started off with Troy in 2020 and resided there for three campaigns before transferring to Oregon. His best year at Troy came in 2022, when he caught 56 passes for 863 yards and four scores.

How will Oregon manage in the Big Ten?

Oregon had been in the Pac-12 (formerly known as the Pac-10 and Pac-8) ever since 1968, so this will represent a stark change for the university.

The Ducks have established themselves as a national power over the last decade-and-a-half, logging 11 double-digit win campaigns since 2008. They made it all the way to the national championship game in 2014, where they lost to Ohio State.

Last year, Oregon went 12-2 and defeated Liberty in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Ducks have reeled off three consecutive double-digit win seasons, but the Big Ten is certainly a different animal from the Pac-12.

It remains to be seen if Oregon can maintain its level of dominance against behemoths like Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, although the Ducks are considered the second-best team in the conference behind the Buckeyes heading into the season.
