My colleague Ryan Roberts, who is a terrific writer and great new addition to A to Z Sports, knows his stuff when it comes to college football. Seriously, I can't recommend his work enough. Go read.

In his latest piece, Robert took a look around the college football landscape and put together the perfect offense based on position groups. Adding to the preseason hype for the Oregon Ducks, Roberts made his pick at the quarterback position, choosing Dillon Gabriel and the Ducks to run his perfect offense.

Dillon Gabriel and the Ducks lead the way at the quarterback position

Gabriel was named to the Walter Camp Award watch list , is currently the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, and the Ducks enter the new season ranked as the No. 3 team in coaches poll . To say the excitement around the Ducks is bubbling is an understatement.

Roberts picked Gabriel and the rest of the depth chart as the top quarterback room in the country. His breakdown:

"This was a tough call, with other schools like Texas and Ohio State making a strong case to be near the top of the list. In the end, the Ducks’ combination of experience and young talent won out. It starts with Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel, who has thrown for 14,865 yards and 125 touchdowns. The former Sooners and UCF signal caller also added 26 scores as a runner.

Behind Gabriel, Oregon is also very talented. They received another big transfer this fall when former UCLA quarterback Dante Moore opted for the Ducks, a school he was once committed to during the process. It was an up and down freshman campaign for Moore with UCLA, throwing for 1,610 yards and 11 touchdowns. Even amidst that tough campaign, you saw the talent that once made Moore considered a five-star recruit.

Add in redshirt freshman Austin Novosad and true freshman athlete Luke Moga, and you have a tremendous future under center for the Ducks. That’s a spot in good hands under head coach Dan Lanning."

Gabriel will be playing with the best offense he has played with yet

Gabriel is a gamer with a live arm, and now finds himself in a great system surrounded by playmakers . Gabriel has the benefit of throwing to Evan Stewart, a true breakout candidate ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, while having Tez Johnson lining up and torching defenses out of the slot.

This offense, last season, had the second-most yards per game, was third in third down conversion rate, was fifth in yards per pass play, and was also 5th in yards per rush. It's a well-balanced attack that's capable of making life difficult for opposing defenses.

In a great system with great playmakers, Gabriel is primed to have the best season of his collegiate career.
