Oregon football's 'That Team Out West' mini-documentary features unprecedented coverage

Oregon football’s popular videography team — which garnered attention for its weekly in-season recaps in 2023 — entered unprecedented territory on Tuesday, releasing a 33-minute mini-documentary detailing the Ducks’ journey through summer and fall camp thus far.

The footage was unprecedented for not only Oregon, but the entirety of college football, as fans were shown an in-depth look at the Ducks’ offseason inner workings, reminiscent of HBO’s NFL-centered “Hard Knocks” series.

For Oregon fans, this never-before-seen level of coverage may be worth a second, or even a third, look, so today, we’ve compiled our favorite quotes from the 33-minute documentary into one engaging list:

Narrator and Modern Family star Ty Burrell:

“Oregon is up to their old ways. The Ducks have always known how to make a splash and leave everyone else in their wake.”

Head Coach Dan Lanning to Pat McAfee:

“We don’t mind bothering people over here at Oregon. I think that means you’re doing something right. You guys don’t really mind bothering people either.”

    Offensive Coordinator Will Stein:

“It starts with the way we practice. Let’s go man, it’s time. We in this thing. You’re gonna blink, you’re gonna wake up and it’s game day, so take advantage of right now.”

    Burrell:

“When players hit the portal in the spring, coach Dan Lanning hit it harder and convinced two of the best quarterbacks available — Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore — that Tracktown was big enough for the both of them. Throw big-armed sophomore Austin Novosad, who surprised everyone except himself in the spring, and four-star speedster freshman Luke Moga into the mix, and what you have is iron sharpening iron. . . that’s also sharpening iron.”

    Burrell:

“Hitting the talent lottery means nothing without the right leadership. Four and five-stars don’t just align. You have to put them in the right positions.”

Lanning on transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel:

“You’ve got eight months to be that guy right now. I’ll say this, people in this room are dying for your vocal leadership. They’re dying to hear your voice.”

    Lanning:

“Jordan (Burch), there is a monster inside that body. When you release that monster, it’s a different cat. You, again, probably had one of the best springs of the guys in this room, right? You were more conscientious about asking for coaching this spring than when you first got here. That’s what you have to keep doing to become the best version of you.”

    Lanning:

“I probably coach Jeff (Bassa) more than anybody on this team. What does that tell you guys that I think about Jeff? He could be really good, so don’t take that as a negative, take that as me challenging you to be the best version of yourself.”

    Lanning:

“If we can be loyal to each other in this room and loyal to our players, now we’re cooking with gas. And I’m not asking for loyalty to me, I’m asking for loyalty to Oregon football, because this place does so much for us, but we have to work with each other to be able to do that.”

    Lanning:

“Out here, we coach everything. We coach everything and there’s a reason for everything we do. There’s a reason we practice in the afternoon: too easy to go in the morning. We want to be uncomfortable. We said that’s where we know growth happens, so guess what? Tomorrow, roll your sleeves up. Your body’s gonna be sore. Who cares?”

    Burrell:

“The noise, lately, has reached a fever pitch, and while Oregon has been busy fine tuning, it’s almost impossible to tune it out.”
