Excelsior Springs, MO — Nestled at 109 E Broadway Ave, a unique new establishment is stirring up excitement in downtown Excelsior Springs. Huey’s Hidden Vault, a combination of a boutique and a bar—aptly named a “Bartique”—is the brainchild of Pam and Dale Myers, who recently relocated to the area from Hermann, Missouri.

Dale and Pam Myers are the proud owners of Huey's Hidden Vault.

Pam and Dale’s journey to opening Huey’s Hidden Vault began with an unexpected opportunity. The couple previously owned an upscale bed and breakfast in Hermann from 2005 until 2020, when a serendipitous offer they couldn’t refuse led them to sell their business and relocate to Excelsior Springs. “I thought my husband was going to retire then,” Pam chuckled, recounting the sale. But retirement didn’t come easily for Dale, who continues to work for General Motors as he approaches the next chapter of his life.

With their daughter and grandson living nearby in Kearney, the Myers decided Excelsior Springs was the perfect place to start something new. Drawing on Pam’s lifelong entrepreneurial spirit and Dale’s passion for fine bourbons and cigars, the couple decided to merge their interests into a business that reflected their shared passions.

Huey’s Hidden Vault offers a distinctive blend of upscale clothing and accessories alongside a curated selection of fine bourbons, cigars, and cocktails. “Our daughter suggested starting a Bartique,” Pam explained. “It’s all the rage on the coasts—a hybrid retail establishment where you can enjoy a cocktail while shopping for something stylish.”

The vault’s ambiance is intimate and inviting, offering a little something for everyone. With a carefully selected range of wines and beers, Huey’s also encourages patrons to explore other local establishments like Casa Da Vite for wine or Atlas Saloon for a broader beer selection. The goal, Pam emphasized, is to create a community where local businesses thrive together. “We want to be like sister businesses so we can all grow together.”

Manager, Calvin Gatlin greets customers with a smile can mix up whatever they like.

The Myers have also enlisted the expertise of Calvin Gatlin, the vault’s manager, and bartender, who brings a wealth of experience from his time at The Elms Hotel and various other local venues. Calvin’s creativity is evident in the special events Huey’s hosts, such as a “vinyl night” where patrons can bring in their favorite albums to enjoy while sipping cocktails. On September 14th, the vault will host a pop-up event featuring Mean Mule, a tequila distillery from Kansas City, offering samples and tequila-inspired cocktails.

The interior of Huey’s Hidden Vault is just as unique as its concept. Pam’s daughter, who shares her mother’s creative streak, designed the logo and has been instrumental in shaping the vault’s aesthetic. “She’s been a huge help,” Pam said, “from designing our logo to drawing the sign out front for special events.”

Currently, Huey’s Hidden Vault is open from 4 pm to “9-ish” as Pam and Dale experiment with hours and settle into their new business. “We don’t plan on being a late-night party atmosphere,” Pam noted, envisioning the vault more as a cozy, quiet place where people can gather with friends, enjoy conversation, and unwind in style.

With its innovative concept and warm, welcoming atmosphere, Huey’s Hidden Vault is a must-try spot for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re in the mood to shop for a new outfit or relax with a finely crafted cocktail, Huey’s offers a unique experience that embodies the charm and creativity of Excelsior Springs.
