Where to find high water mark plaques from RI's past floods and hurricanes
Throughout Rhode Island, high water mark plaques serve as sobering reminders of the damage wrought by hurricanes and other natural disasters. They range from weathered markers commemorating the Great Gale of 1815 in downtown Providence to newer signs along the Pawtuxet and Pawcatuck Rivers that were erected after the floods of 2010. Many are souvenirs of the hurricanes of 1938 and 1954, memorializing the dramatic heights that floodwaters reached during those storms.
