Iowa, Illinois, & Wisconsin Could Soon Experience A ‘Rodent Rampage’ In Their Homes
You may need to charge rent to a few critters before too long. Some of us have had to deal with snakes and bugs in our houses or on our property this summer. And now, one of the best parts of fall is that all of those crawl back into the earth where they belong.

Transition to warmer weather begins tonight
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - The transition to warmer, muggier conditions begins tonight. After another pleasant day, we remain dry overnight with partly cloudy skies. Some of our far southern counties could see a sprinkle in spots, but these would be few and far between. Lows fall into the mid to upper 60s as dew points continue to climb through the 60s. Our temperatures begin to climb tomorrow, as highs reach the upper 80s. Dew points in the lower 70s will push heat index values into the low to mid 90s. Make sure you’re staying hydrated and have a way to cool off if you’re spending time outside. While a stray shower or storm is possible during the afternoon and evening, most areas can expect to remain dry. The chance for a stray shower or storm lingers Saturday night as lows drop into the low to mid 70s. We are dry Sunday and Monday, but we are hot and muggy. Highs reach the mid 90s both days, and dew points in the mid 70s will push heat index values near the triple digits. We remain hot and muggy through the middle of the week, with highs in the low to mid 90s and dew points and low temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. Our next best chance of rain doesn’t arrive until a cold front moves through late in the week.
Time is Running Out on the Unclaimed $500,000 Iowa Lottery Ticket
The winner of a massive lottery prize has less than a month to claim it before a six-figure piece of paper effectively becomes worthless. Back in March, a Powerball ticket was purchased at a Kwik Star, located at 1502 South Federal Avenue, in Mason City, IA. That ticket proved to be a lucky one, as it's now worth $500,000. The prize will expire if unclaimed by the September 12th deadline.
See What Archeologists in Iowa Unearthed After 13,600 Years
It's nice to see these coming out of the ground like this. Archaeologists in Iowa have made a significant discovery with the unearthing of a well-preserved mastodon skull, dating back approximately 13,600 years. This find, located in the southern part of the state, is Iowa’s first notable mastodon and includes several bones primarily from the skull. The timing of this mastodon’s life aligns with the era when the first humans were inhabiting the region. I wonder if this mastodon knew the Flintstones.
