First Solar, Tempe, Arizona, recently commissioned what it dubs ‘the largest thin-film R&D center in the Western Hemisphere.’ The company — the U.S.’s largest solar panel manufacturer — has sited its Jim Nolan Center for Solar Innovation in Lake Township, Ohio, which is just south of Akron. The 1.3-million-ft² facility includes a pilot manufacturing line for producing full-sized prototypes of thin film and tandem photovoltaic (PV) modules. The Nolan Center is expected to create about 300 new jobs by 2025. The company has been using a manufacturing line at its Perrysburg, Ohio, factory near Toledo for late-stage product development, but this manufacturing line limits development flexibility. The new R&D facility is designed to accelerate innovation cycles, enhancing First Solar’s research and development capabilities.
Summit County Fair opens this week; kids under 15 get in free 1 day
TALLMADGE, Ohio – The Summit County Fair is scheduled for July 23-28 at the fairgrounds in Tallmadge, located at 229 E. Howe Road. Officials tell those going to Ohio State Fair to squash invasive spotted lanternflies
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The invasive spotted lanternfly was reported at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. The colorful winged bug has been in the state for a few years now. The Ohio Department of Agriculture wants your help with squishing the pesky insect. Many signs will be posted on the grounds to educate fairgoers on what the insect looks like. The Director of the Department of Agriculture, Brian Baldridge, says you can help reduce the spread of the spotted lanternfly.

Major Ohio company stock growth slowed last week, but 10 saw at least 2.5% increase
CLEVELAND, Ohio — A total of 21 major Ohio companies saw stock growth last week, with 10 seeing growth of at least 2.5%, four of which were in Greater Cleveland.
