Fayetteville business owner calls for improved pedestrian safety after customer fatally struck by vehicle
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A Fayetteville man is worried about the safety of his customers who walk to his convenience store. Thierno Barry runs a gas station near Cliffdale Road and Bunce Road in Fayetteville. Many of his customers live in nearby neighborhoods, don’t have cars, and walk across four lanes of traffic on Cliffdale to the store. Multiple pedestrians have been hit while attempting to cross the road.

Name released of Fayetteville employee killed in ATV wreck Thursday
The identity of a city worker killed in an ATV accident Thursday morning was released by police Friday afternoon. Joseph Mial, 55, died after the all-terrain vehicle he was operating struck a fence around 6:30 a.m. at Fisher Road and Lakeway Drive, according to the Fayetteville Police Department. At the time of the accident, Mial was collecting trash, presumably for the city. The Police Department did not say what city department he worked for. Mial was pronounced dead at the scene. On Thursday, officers revealed a man was arrested after two search warrants at two homes on July 18 led to the discovery of 815 grams of fentanyl, along with cocaine, and two guns, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
2 people in custody after a multi-county chase exceeding 100 mph
A multi-county car chase ended in two people in custody Friday night.It started just before 10 p.m. in Sampson County.Deputies tried to stop a White Nissan Maxima traveling south on Highway 701. The driver then went westbound on I-40 toward Johnston County.The chase continued into Harnett County. The driver then took exit 71 and headed back toward Sampson County.Authorities said speeds exceeded 100 mph during the chase.Deputies set up a stop stick before NC Highway 242 before Spivey's Corner. Before 10:30 p.m., the driver hit the stop stick, causing their tires to deflate.The female driver is in custody, along with the male passenger. Their identities have not been released yet.The chase lasted around 30 minutes.
