In late June, the Mayo Clinic Health System clinic building in Waterville experienced significant damage from weather-related flooding, which resulted in a temporary closure.

After a thorough assessment, Mayo Clinic Health System has determined that the building is no longer safe for staff or patient care and will not reopen.

"These situations are always challenging, but this decision is necessary to ensure patients and staff have a safe, high-quality experience, which is no longer possible in the building," says James Hebl, M.D., regional vice president of Mayo Clinic Health System in Southwest Minnesota. "We are confident that our nearby facilities and virtual care options will continue to serve patients well and provide them with exceptional care close to home."

Staff who previously provided care at the Waterville clinic have transitioned permanently to Mayo Clinic Health System’s Waseca campus. Waterville patients have been receiving in-person care at the Waseca campus or Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Patients also have access to many convenient care options beyond traditional face-to-face visits, including the newly launched Primary Care On Demand app, which offers access to a primary care physician 24 hours a day, seven days a week — including holidays and weekends.

Mayo Clinic Health System has been providing customized support to Waterville patients who are transitioning their care.
