The hog call, as they call it, is one of the most unique things in all of sports. The Arkansas Razorbacks, whether it be football or any other sport, have a rich tradition of calling the hogs.

If you are a fan, have been to a game as an away fan, or even watched them on TV, you have heard fans rampantly screaming a combination of words that no other fan base does, or even comes close to.

"Woooooooooo, pig sooie! Woooooooooo, pig sooie! Woooooooo, pig sooie, Razorbacks!"

That's about how it goes. Fans have been doing that since about the 1920s when a group of farmers started shouting it at a football game. And, that has carried over and been a thing ever since.

While that still is, and will always be the thing that Arkansas does , there is kind of a new phrase that head coach Sam Pittman is suggesting. This week has been SEC Media Days, where all coaches and a few players per team talk to the media. For Sam Pittman, the head coach of the Razorbacks, there has been a revamped focus this offseason on how to get back to playing football like the Hogs are supposed to.

“The 2024 season is a fresh start,” Pittman said. “We’ve been working tirelessly to address the areas that we need improvement. Our players have shown remarkable resilience and commitment this offseason. Our focus is to embrace the hog, which means we need to be tough, we need to be together. We need to be consistent, and accountable and do it with pride. I think we’ve accomplished that this summer. We’ve accomplished that through spring ball.”

The new catchphrase that Pittman suggests is to embrace the hog. Yeah, I think there is already a lot of feedback about that and why it isn't the best. Let's just say it can definitely be taken out of context a bit.

But, we all know what Pittman means. They want to get back to the way that the Razorbacks are known for playing. You have to be tough, you have to be blue-collar, and you have to outwork everyone. They didn't have the best year under Pittman last season. They won just four games and were far from the same team that beat up on the Texas Longhorns.

But, as Pittman said, this is a fresh start. He knows he is on the hot seat, and he is ready to give it his all.
