Arkansas Coach Sam Pittman Shares Honest Admission About Hot Seat Buzz

The SEC Media Days are still going as coaches around the conference are fielding questions ahead of the 2024 season. Arkansas Razorbacks head coach, Sam Pittman, was asked point-blank about the hot seat buzz. Pittman didn't hide away from the rumors and instead acknowledged them with an honest admission.

It wasn't that long ago when Pittman was viewed as a top coach in the country. Despite that, the Arkansas head coach is aware of the hot seat pressure , claiming "I'm at top of the (hot seat) list," according to Brett McMurphy of The Action Network.

"I’m popular now, the wrong way. I'm hot. I'm at top of the (hot seat) list. What's fair is fair. If you're gonna get patted on the back you're gonna get punched in the gut. To be fair only one that controls that is me."

The Razorbacks held a losing record from the 2017 season to the 2020 season. Sam Pittman led Arkansas to a successful year in 2021 with a 9-4 record. However, the program fell back to under. 500 last year after finishing with a punitive 4-8 record. So, it makes sense why Pittman is possibly on the hot seat right now.

With that said, Sam Pittman's tenure as Arkansas' head coach is looking a bit grim. Looking at the Razorbacks' upcoming schedule, they face off against multiple tough opponents throughout the year. That list includes teams like Texas, Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee, Missouri, and Auburn.

The Arkansas football program is in the middle of the pack when it comes to recruiting and the transfer portal. Being the SEC certainly helps. However, Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks are only ranked No. 28 in the nation in recruiting and No. 26 in the portal, per 247 Sports.

So far, Arkansas has acquired several four-star recruits including Charlie Collins (DL), Selman Bridges (CB), KJ Jackson (QB), and Braylen Russell (RB). So, at the very least, the Razorbacks have some solid recruits to develop in the coming years.
