Fatal Crash Closes Route 7 in Oneonta, New York
Per the New York State Police and DOT, Route 7 in Oneonta is closed after a fatal accident involving a pedestrian. According to 511.ny.org: Crash road closed and Crash with fatal on NY 7 both directions between East End Ave (Oneonta) and CR 47 (Oneonta) 2 all lanes of 2 lanes blocked for a crash involving a car and pedestrian with one confirmed fatality. All WB traffic is being diverted off at CR 47 to I-88 WB to NY 23 for reentry to NY-7. EB traffic is being diverted off at NY 23 to I-88 EB to CR 47 for reentry to NY 7. Mount Upton Man Charged With Attempted Murder, Assault After Hitting Person With Vehicle
A Mount Upton man is charged after state police say he deliberately struck another person with a vehicle and fled the scene. According to state police, troopers responded to County Route 18 and State Highway 51 in Butternuts, Otsego County around 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, where they found a victim that had been intentionally struck by a vehicle and the driver had fled the scene. The victim was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment for serious injuries, but state police say the victim is expected to survive.

State Police responded at about 5:00 AM today to State Highway 7 in Oneonta for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. A preliminary investigation indicates that 40 year old Amber Joy of Oneonta was walking in the roadway and was struck by a vehicle, she did not survive. The crash remains under investigation, the operator of the vehicle has been cooperative with Investigators. The roadway was reopened just before 9:30 am.
Capsized Canoe Sends a Pair and Pet into Mohawk
On June 2, 2024, several reports of a capsized canoe with occupants in the water were received at Unified Communications Center sending a large contingent of fireboats to the scene on the Mohawk River just west of the Kiwanis Park boat launch. The Beukendaal fireboat made it to the scene first, picking up a male and female and their German shepherd puppy and bringing them to safety. The occupants did not sustain any injuries. Fireboats from Rotterdam Junction and Schonowee fire departments responded but were not needed.
