HTL: Generals rally in 6th to beat Outlaws, 6-2

JANESVILLE — The Fort Atkinson Generals strung together six hits in their decisive five-run sixth inning, turning back the host Footville Outlaws 6-2 in Home Talent League baseball on Sunday.

Fort produced a combined seven baserunners in the first four innings but were not able to scratch across a run.

That changed in the fifth, when Branden Zastrow singled with one away and scored from first on Jake Hansen’s base knock to left, cutting the Footville lead to 2-1.

Fort sent 10 hitters to the dish in the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Zastrow singled in the go-ahead run to put the Generals (4-4) ahead 3-2.

Hansen followed with the game’s lone extra-base hit, lining a double to right field that brought Josh Crandall and Zastrow around. Kroix Kucken added a two-out RBI single for the final margin.

Isaac Heederik, Conner Kienbaum, Cam Wolter, Zastrow and Hansen all had two hits for Fort, which held a 14-9 edge in hits.

Austin Paul started for the Generals and earned the decision. He allowed two earned runs on seven hits in five innings. Kucken tossed the final four frames to record the save. He allowed two hits while punching out three.

Brady Malkow, who permitted four earned runs on seven hits while walking seven and fanning five across 5 1/3 innings, took the loss for the Outlaws (3-5).

Fort hosts McFarland on Thursday at 1 p.m.
