Suspect, officer shot in Fort Collins after single-car rollover crash

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Both an officer and a suspect were shot after a single-car rollover crash in Fort Collins on Sunday afternoon, according to the Fort Collins Police Services .

In a press release issued at about 4 p.m., the agency said the incident began at about 12:41 p.m. when officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of Bryan Avenue and Mountain Avenue.

According to the Fort Collins Police Services, the driver exited the vehicle with a firearm and “exchanged gunfire with officers” before running into Grandview Cemetery.

Officers chased the suspect and more gunfire “occurred,” according to the agency.

A Fort Collins police SWAT unit arrived with an armored vehicle. Officers used the vehicle to safely approach the suspect who was injured and rendered aid. The suspect was arrested and taken to a local hospital.

An officer was also shot in the incident. The officer was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

The Critical Incident Response Team and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.

Roads reopened late Sunday, but initially, the streets around City Park and Grandview Cemetery from Bryan Avenue to West Mountain Avenue and Grandview Avenue to Laporte Avenue were closed for the investigation.
