FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne is home to the Komets, professional hockey team in the city, but what about the Distillers?

The Summit City Distillers are a semi-pro hockey team that will be joining the American Premier Hockey League (APHL), starting games this fall. The say the goal is to have 12 games at Parkview/SportOne IceHouse, but the schedule and roster is still in the works.

The organization is run completely non-profit, and is just working to give players another opportunity to their pro hockey dreams.

“Two of these kids never thought they would have the chance to do it, and now they do,” Nick Graham, General Manager of the organization said. “They both work full-time jobs and have kids, and now, its there.”

A mandatory meeting was held on June 6 for players interested. Since then they have been building a roster and will hold a “ID Skate” at SportOne/Parkview IceHouse on Saturday, August 3 at 7 p.m.

Tickets will be available in single game, season, or group tickets coming soon.

They will be hosting “summer skates” soon for players to come showcase talent. Dates are to be announced on their website here .
