Fort Wayne United takes off for US Youth nationals in Orlando

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne United is making Summit City soccer history next week at “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

The club soccer program’s U16 and U19 girls teams will both compete in the USYS National Championships at the Wide World of Sports at Disney World. It’s the first time that a Fort Wayne program is being represented at the national stage.

Prior to departing for Orlando, Fort Wayne United had one last practice on Saturday at Hefner Soccer Fields.

Both teams feature plenty of local soccer standouts. The two teams will compete in a World Cup style tournament, beginning with the group stage. If either team advances out of the group stage, they will then advance to a single-elimination knockout bracket to determine the national champion.

The USYS National Championships are scheduled from July 23-28 in Orlando.
