FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – During her time at Homestead High School, Ayanna Patterson was the big dog in girls basketball around northeast Indiana.

Now the former Miss Basketball winner is trying to rebound as part of the pack with the UConn Huskies.

Patterson returned to Fort Wayne on Friday to host her second “Empower Forward” camp. The camp was free for kids, however donations were collected to benefit the Autism Society of Indiana. In total, Patterson helped raise $10,000 for the statewide non-profit.

Meanwhile, the former Homestead High School standout has had a rocky start to her college basketball career. Patterson had a quiet freshman season before missing her entire sophomore year with a knee injury. This season, Patterson hopes to return to full strength while helping the Huskies get back to their perch atop women’s college basketball.
