High school volleyball district play is underway, and Fort Worth-area teams are battling it out for district titles.

Here is a roundup of some things to know around the area.

District 4-6A powerhouses: Southlake Carroll, Byron Nelson, Keller

District 4-6A is the place to be for volleyball in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Byron Nelson is the No. 2 ranked team in the nation by Max Preps, and Southlake Carroll follows behind at No. 19. Dragon volleyball (1-1 District 4-6A) lost a four set match to Byron Nelson (1-0, District 4-6A) 25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23.

Byron Nelson has a flurry of elite college recruits that includes sophomore setter Sophee Peterson, Washington commit Kylie Kleckner and Rice commits Ashlyn Seay and Sydnee Peterson.

“Byron Nelson is a really good team,” Carroll head coach Leslie Jackson said. “They’re solid in all positions. You have to play your best in order to beat a team like them that is really, really good. They’re solid everywhere. They were the better team that night.”

On Tuesday at Trinity High School, Southlake Carroll volleyball bounced back with a vengeance. The Dragons swept Euless Trinity 25-10, 25-8, 25-15 to get back in the win column.

“They did a good job,” Jackson said. “We wanted to work out a system on our side and I thought they did a good job with that.”

One of Carroll’s player that stood out was junior middle blocker Kinsley Young, a TCU volleyball commit. She had a commanding net presence, making it tough for the Trojan offense to attack.

“She is a superstar,” Jackson said. “She is a great teammate. She is one of our go to players. She works hard all the time, and she is a really good leader. She is somebody we can turn to for a lot of things, and she does a really good job.”

Also, keep an eye on Keller volleyball, a team that took down Byron Nelson in the regional quarterfinals last season. The Indians may not be nationally ranked but they’re still a force to be reckoned with.

Carroll will face Keller next Tuesday, but before that, the Dragons will face Timber Creek on Friday. Jackson is looking for Carroll volleyball to focus on themselves to keep improving play.

“Play clean volleyball on our side,” Jackson said. “Minimizing unforced errors, and competing to the best of our ability.”

Argyle senior reaches milestone in sweep of Weatherford.

Argyle’s senior Jordyn Moore recorded the 1,000th dig of her high school career against Weatherford, who the Eagles beat 3-0.

Head coach Katelyn Johnson praised Moore for her performance and work ethic.

“She is the calm to our crazy on the floor, she said. “She works hard in every area of the game and we couldn’t be happier to have her and for her to reach this milestone.”

The Eagles closed out the game, winning the last two sets 25-12 and 25-14, respectively.

“We felt good. We talked about bringing intensity and making sure we play our style of volleyball the entire time.”

That style is relaxed. The Eagles never seemed phased by anything the Roos threw at them. Johnson said that chemistry is something that has carries them to success.

“It’s been huge for us, that level of calm and focused energy,” she said. “Now, we’re just working on bringing our intensity up and making sure we stay competitive the entire match.”

With the win, Argyle moves to 22-4 on the season. They’ll start district play in three games against Richland on September 13.

Johnson and her team are confident they’ll be able to carry their success through district and into the playoffs.

“To this point in the year, what we’ve been doing has been working for us,” she said. “So, we have to continue to be us and the best version of ourselves. We don’t need to step into district play and try to be something that we’re not. I couldn’t ask for a better group and I’m super excited to see what the next phase of our season looks like.”

    Colleyville Heritage volleyball starts strong

Led by BYU commit and elite national recruit Suli Davis, the Colleyville Heritage Panthers out of District 6-5A are one of the top teams in Texas.

After a state championship win in 2022, the Panthers went to the state tournament in 2023, falling in the state semifinal . Now, the Panthers are once again a potential state title contender.

Over the weekend, the Panthers went 4-0 at the Grapevine-Colleyvile ISD showcase, taking down Flower Mound, Grandview, Wichita Falls Memorial and Highland Park.

Heritage also participated in the Ann Kang invitational, picking up wins over Aubrey, Edison (Ca), Orange Lutheran and more. On Friday, the Panthers will take on Boswell, a Class 6A program, on the road.
