WYANDOTTE, Okla. — Construction will soon begin on a 12,000 square foot addition to the Wyandotte Public School System.

School and tribal leaders broke ground today (3/28) on the land where a new career tech center will be built.

It sits across the street from the high school and will offer agriculture, construction, and exploratory programs to middle and high school kids. School officials say this is a big deal because they need more space.

The project is made possible through a generous donation from members of the Wyandotte Nation.

“We would like to have kids leave here and be skilled workers and have the opportunity to just step into the job market or to continue their education and then step into that market, but also have the skills to be ready to go to work,” said Wyandotte Schools Superintendent, Brad Wade.

“We just feel like every kid, no matter where they live, even if they’re in a small, rural school district, they ought to have the same opportunities that kids in a larger metro area have. So, we’re dedicated to helping the school and seeing the kids get every opportunity that they can to excel in life,” said Wyandotte Nation Chief, Billy Friend.

The hope is to have the new facility finished by January 2025.
