    Motorcyclist killed, passenger seriously injured in accident with SUV

    SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was seriously injured in a Saturday afternoon crash with an SUV in Grantville.

    A 59-year-old man driving a BMW G310 motorcycle was killed when he collied with a Subaru Outback being driven by a 60-year-old man after police say the driver of the Subaru attempted to make an illegal U-turn across a simulated island median in front of the motorcycle, the San Diego Police Department reports.

    The accident happened in the 4100 block of Camino Del Rio North in Grantville at 4:13 p.m. Saturday.

    The motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the Subaru and the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger on the back of the motorcycle was seriously injured, police say. She suffered a fractured pelvis, fractured leg and a collapsed lung. Authorities say her injuries are considered life-threatening.

    San Diego Police did confirm alcohol was not a factor in this crash.

    The SDPD Traffic Division is investigating the fatal accident.
