    More than 80 dogs, remains found in ‘deplorable conditions’ in Lancaster home

    LANCASTER, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A search warrant led to over 80 dogs being rescued on Thursday from a home in Lancaster.

    The Garrard County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook that authorities served a search warrant at a home on Royalty Drive in Lancaster.

    Deputies said 80 dogs were discovered living inside a home “in extremely deplorable conditions” and reported finding decayed animal remains.

    County officials deemed the home uninhabitable due to health and safety concerns.

    The homeowner, 64-year-old Dennis Kirkpatrick, was arrested on 62 counts of second-degree cruelty to animals and a felony count of torture of a dog.

    LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

    Kirkpatrick was lodged in the Jessamine County Detention Center.

    Officials said all of the dogs were placed in the custody of Garrard County Animal Control.

    Garrard County Animal Shelter said the shelter will be closed to the public until further notice.

    Kirkpatrick is due to be arraigned on Aug. 12.
