Denver named one of the most dog-obsessed cities in America

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Denver was named the No. 6 most dog-obsessed city in the country, according to a study released by real estate website Zillow . One of the factors was how pet-friendly the rentals were, with 72% of rentals in Denver accepting pets.

This is actually down from last year when a similar Zillow study revealed that 76.5% of Denver rentals allowed pets. Denver was ranked the No. 5 friendliest city for renters with pets that year.

The study used Zillow data on pet-friendly rentals in connection with data from pet box subscription service company BARK.

According to the study, 59% of renters nationwide report having at least one pet, with 40% having a dog. Zillow also said that the want for pet-friendly rentals is up, with twice as many renters filtering for units with this amenity than any other amenity.

Labrador retrievers and golden retrievers are the most popular breeds in Denver, according to the study, while Bella and Charlie are the city’s two most popular dog names.

Last year, Colorado passed a law limiting pet deposits to a refundable $300 and any recurring pet fee to $35 a month or 1.5% of the rent. That law went into effect at the start of 2024.
